Recently, The Washington Post reported that President Trump is preparing to dissolve the leadership of the United States Postal Service (USPS) and plans to integrate this independent postal agency into his government structure.

According to six informed sources, Trump is expected to issue an executive order as early as this week to dismiss members of the USPS Board of Governors and place the agency under the control of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

This move could potentially disrupt the 250-year-old mail provider and its involvement in trillions of dollars of e-commerce transactions. Three of the informed sources told The Washington Post that the USPS Board plans to oppose Trump’s order.

During an emergency meeting on Thursday, the board hired outside legal counsel and instructed that if the president removes board members or attempts to alter the agency’s independent status, they will sue the White House.
