Inflation Crisis Deepens Across Iran

Iran’s central bank reported that the country’s inflation rate from March 20 to April 20 reached 65.8%, and economists warn that the situation could worsen further as the currency continues to collapse.

The impact on ordinary Iranian families has been severe.

A family that spent decades saving 1 billion rials — an amount that could previously cover the down payment for a small apartment — can now barely afford a one-way international airline ticket.

Basic living costs have surged dramatically:

Meanwhile, medical shortages are worsening. Reports indicate that drug shortages in Tehran have exceeded 30%, forcing many chronic disease patients to interrupt treatment due to lack of available medication.

Trump Says Iran Is “In a State of Collapse”

On the 28th, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran wants the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz “as quickly as possible.”

Posting on social media, Trump wrote:

“Iran has just informed us that they are in a state of collapse. They want us to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately.”

He also claimed that Iran was attempting to address internal leadership challenges and expressed confidence that the situation could be managed.

On the 29th, Trump further stated that the United States would continue its maritime blockade against Iran until Tehran agrees to a deal that addresses U.S. concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

According to reports, Trump rejected an Iranian proposal that suggested first lifting the blockade and restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz before postponing nuclear negotiations.

Trump reportedly described the blockade as a more effective pressure tactic than direct military action, arguing that Iran is facing enormous pressure due to its inability to export oil.

Sources also claim that the U.S. military has prepared a “short-term but powerful” strike plan. If negotiations remain deadlocked, Washington may consider targeting critical Iranian infrastructure to force Tehran back to the negotiating table.

Iran Warns of “Unprecedented Military Action”

On the 29th local time, an unnamed senior Iranian security official warned that if the United States continues its maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran will respond with “practical and unprecedented military action” against what it described as ongoing American “piracy.”

The official stated that Iran’s armed forces had so far shown restraint in order to provide an opportunity for diplomatic mediation and allow the United States to consider Iran’s conditions for permanently ending hostilities.

According to the official, the current ceasefire exists partly to give President Trump “an opportunity to lead the United States out of the current quagmire.”

The official further warned:

“If American stubbornness and delusion continue, and Iran’s conditions are rejected, the enemy will soon face a completely different response.”
